New Drum Corps News from Mr. Mark:
Hello all, I hope your summer is going well so far. I’m looking forward to our upcoming year in drum corps. We have a lot of new and different things planned to help move our organization to the next level of growth. First we are planning on performing a marching show. That means we all have to learn to march, which is the second new thing. Another new thing is the addition of a color guard with members using flags in addition to dance that will add a visual element to our marching performance. We also have a percussion instructor, Mr. Ian Jesam that will work with our drummers and I hope we can all make him feel welcome. One last thing we hope to add is a uniform so that we can all look the same. We will be performing our marching show at several of the color guard circuit’s shows that begin in January. Right now we are planning on attending four of these shows with the last one being the circuit championships in Thibodaux. Don’t forget our planned performance at Celebration In The Oaks for the Christmas season also. Since we are doing a marching show this year, everyone will have a spot in the show that is just for them. I will need to know exactly how many people will be participating this year and what part they will be doing. I will also need to be sure that each of these people will participate until our season is over with the performance in Thibodaux. Please let me know if you are not planning on participating so that I will not plan a spot for you in the show. (I really really hope you’re all planning on participating!!!)
Another thing being planned that I hope you’ll all enjoy is our little field trip to Ocean Springs Mississippi to watch a drum corps show that will happen there. The contest will have eight world class drum corps competing including two former world champions. The corps are The Santa Clara Vanguard, The Bluecoats, The Phantom Regiment, The Blue Knights, The Colts, Spirit, Teal Sound and Cascades. I know you’ll enjoy seeing these fine corps and I hope you’ll get an idea of what we’re starting to do here in New Orleans. The show will take place on July 27th and I will need a count of how many of you (including any parents) that want to attend. The cost will be approximately 20 dollars for the cost of the ticket and to help pay for the bus. Please let me know as soon as you know you’ll be attending this show.
I’m looking forward to working with all of you, plus some new people and I hope you’re also looking forward to it. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything and I’ll try to answer you as best I can!
Mark Richards
